Brilliant things to do

this Summer

Summer is hot, we all know, but let’s look at the bright side of things and take advantage of the longer days.

Summer in Italy means sitting out late in a piazza watching the world go by, enjoying a gourmet dinner set in one of Florence’s hidden gardens, and drinking a glass of fresh Vermentino on the banks of the Arno river.

Summer means tomatoes, eggplant, basil, peaches and figs – all ingredients for  Italian delicatessen. And gelato to cool you as you explore the city streets.

24.02.22 – 01.08.22 LE TRE PIETÀ DI MICHELANGELO. MUSEO DELL’OPERA DEL DUOMO

For the first time, it will be possible to see the casts of the famous Vatican Pietà of San Pietro and the Pietà Rondanini, kept in the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, next to the Bandini Pietà, preserved in the museum of Santa Maria del Fiore and recently restored. A precious opportunity to discuss a theme dear to the Renaissance genius.

19.03.22 – 31.07.22 DONATELLO, IL RINASCIMENTO. PALAZZO STROZZI

Palazzo Strozzi and the Bargello National Museum host an unrepeatable exhibition; the two museums will converge most of Donatello’s works present on the Italian territory. A unique journey through the Renaissance and the life of this great master..

07.04.22 – 13.09.22 OSCAR GHIGLIA. GLI ANNI DI NOVECENTO. PALAZZO MEDICI RICCARDI

A pupil of Fattori, Oscar Ghiglia (1876-1945), moved to Florence in 1900, making it his city of choice. Looking beyond the Alps, particularly at Cézanne’s paintings, Ghiglia crossed the Italian early twentieth century with the compositional and chromatic delicacy of his still lifes and his portraits.

26.04.22 – 27.11.22 SAMMY BALOJI. K(C)ONGO, FRAGMENTS OF INTERLACED DIALOGUES. SUBVERSIVE CLASSIFICATIONS

The Andito degli Angiolini of Palazzo Pitti hosts Baloji’s first solo show in Italy.

The artist’s works interact with archival material and important Congolese works on loan from the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology in Florence, the Museum of Civilizations in Rome, and the Uffizi Galleries. Baloji’s research focuses on the relationship between the history and memory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and global history.

Paolini’s exhibition brings together his most recent production in dialogue with the Renaissance architecture of the rooms on the ground floor of the Museo Novecento.
